Interest Group Newsletter Article Submission Guidelines

Each interest group publishes a quarterly newsletter specific to its field of the insurance industry. Volunteer interest group members serve as editors, and they welcome article submissions from various sources. If you would like to submit an article for publication in an interest group newsletter, here are some general guidelines.

Manuscript Guidelines
  • The CPCU Society follows The Chicago Manual of Style, The University of Chicago Press, Fourteenth Edition, for all its publications.

  • Facts that are not commonly known as well as quotations should be cited in endnote form. We prefer that citations not be extensive.

  • Please indicate all type specifications and subheads on the hard copy of your manuscript. (For example, an underlined word will be italicized; a squiggly underline will be set as bold.) Please also mark the head levels in the margins of the hard copy: H1—head one; H2—head two; H3—head three, etc.

  • Tables and figures should be numbered and titled. Reference should be made in the manuscript to the point of insertion. They can be submitted on separate pages.

  • Include a two- to three-sentence biography of the author(s), and submit photos of the author(s) if available.

  • Authors will be asked to state that the article has not been published elsewhere, and that proper credit has been given where necessary.

  • If you are submitting an article that was published previously, you must obtain written permission to reprint the article from the publication in which the article first appeared. Please attach the reprint permission letter to your article submission. (Reprinted articles should be kept to a minimum.)

File Preparation Guidelines

  • Please submit articles in Microsoft Word, or another word processing program, in addition to the hard copy. Please keep your files as simple as possible.

  • Please be certain that the hard copy you send is of your final text version. If your electronic file and hard copy do not match, we will need to contact you for clarification and that slows down the production process.

  • Please contact the respective editor(s) to whom you will be submitting an article to see if he or she accepts articles via e-mail. (If you e-mail an article to an editor, please mail the editor a hard copy of your article as well.)
